Total has begun production from the Kaombo project located on Block 32, 260 kilometers off the coast of Luanda, Angola.
In a statement released last week, Total said it had successfully brought Kaombo Norte on stream. This is the first FPSO vessel on the site, and it will produce an estimated 115,000 barrels of oil per day. The second vessel – Kaombo Sul – is expected to start up next year.
Overall production will reach an estimated 230,000 bopd at peak and associated gas will be exported to the Angola LNG plant. The Kaombo project will connect 59 wells to the two FPSOs through one of the world’s largest subsea networks.
“The Kaombo start up is great milestone for Total. Developing the estimated 650 million barrels of reserves will contribute to the Group’s growing production and cashflow in Africa,” said Arnaud Breuillac, President of Exploration & Production at Total.
The company has a 30 percent operating interest in Block 32, as does the national oil and gas company Sonangol, while Sinopec International 32 Limited holds 20 percent, Esso Exploration & Production Angola has 15 percent and Galp Energia Overseas Block 32 B.V. has 5 percent.
