The Energy Minute: Tanzania’s Aim to Generate 6,000 MW of Renewable Energy by 2025

Energy Capital & Power explores the penetration of renewable energy in Tanzania as the government seeks to fast forward the diversification of the energy mix to ensure energy security.

Tanzania’s President, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, recently announced the East African country’s plan to increase its renewable energy capacity by 6,000 MW by 2025.

Projects such as the 2,100 MW Julius Nyerere Hydropower, the 358 MW Ruhugii and the 222 MW Rumakali Hydropower are expected to play a key role in expanding the country’s generation capacity.
