Enel Green Power RSA (EGP RSA) has begun construction on the 140MW Nxuba wind farm, in the Amatole District in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa – making it the third wind project in the province for the company.
The project will require an overall investment of $226 million and is expected to generate over 460 GWh annually once fully operational.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the company said: “This new project reaffirms EGP RSA’s contribution to further diversify South Africa’s generation mix, while supplying sustainable energy to Eskom and promoting the socio-economic growth of local communities.”
Further, EGP RSA said the farm would be supported by its 20 year power supply agreement with state-owned power utility, Eskom.
The Nxuba wind farm was originally awarded as part of bid window four of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement program.
Other projects awarded to the company under bid window four include Oyster Bay Wind Farm (140MW) in the Eastern Cape, Garob (140MW), Karusa (140MW) and Soetwater (140MW) wind power plants all located in the Northern Cape.
Enel Green Power RSA is a subsidiary of the Italian multinational energy company, Enel.
