Shell’s Panna Cotta-1 is poised to target the Shafr al Khanjar and Lamina prospects, accumulating approximately 285 million barrels recoverable.

Shell’s breakthrough finding might reignite exploration activity in the MSGBC basin. The large-scale gas discovery in the Grande Tortue Ahmeyim field in 2015 highlighted the importance of deeper cretaceous petroleum systems.

The gas discovery was quickly followed by the BirAllah find. Several large energy firms, including bp, Kosmos Energy, TotalEnergies, and Cairn, continue to explore the area.
