On Tuesday, the national oil company – Petrosen – announced that Senegal would be launching a licensing round for the exploration for oil & gas in two blocks, namely the Senegal Offshore South and Deep Offshore Senegal blocks.
According to reports by Agence Afrique, oil and gas companies are invited to send their applications to the Senegalese Ministry of Petroleum of Energy and have until October 31, 2018 to submit.
This announcement follows the recent announcement by Head of State, Macky Sall that the transfer of blocks would be handled through tender processes going forward.
“In the oil code that we are drafting and which we have adopted, this is what we have will take on as a step forward – and that is to say that the blocks will be assigned by tender,” said President Sall, according to a report by Agence de Presse Senegalese.
Prior to this, Director General of Petrosen, Mamadou Faye announced at the Africa Oil & Power conference in Cape Town last month that the country was planning on opening 10 blocks in a bidding round round to be held in Q1/Q2 of 2019.
