Russia and Rwanda have signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday by Rosatom Director General Aleksey Likhachev and Rwandan Minister of Infrastructure, Claver Gatete.
It will pave the way for the implementation and construction of projects including a nuclear power plant and center for nuclear science and technology.
Further, the agreement will act as a legal basis for for the development of nuclear infrastructure in line with the international requirements, the elaboration of the regulation in the field of nuclear safety and supervision of physical protection of nuclear materials.
“We are happy to share our more than 70 years’ expertise in the field of peaceful use of nuclear technologies with our Rwandan partners. We hope that our cooperation in that area will contribute to the economic growth and improve the quality of life of the Rwandan population,” Likhachev said.
