Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi commissioned the Negomano-Roma Road in August 2023 under efforts to increase cross-border trade. The 164 km road network connects the country with neighboring Tanzania, and was constructed through a $170 million loan from multilateral development finance institution the African Development Bank.
The road network is expected to improve access to health services, education and economic opportunities for the people in the Cabo Delgado province in Mozambique.
In addition, the project will enhance the movement of goods, services and people between Tanzania and Mozambique, thereby contributing to regional economic growth.
“The road is a great gain for the viability and maximization of regional integration,” stated President Nyusi. He added that the project falls under the country’s socioeconomic development agenda which aims to boost economic growth through regional integration.
The project took 42 months to complete and provided employment to 417 people.
