Formerly Head of Policy Analysis at the Department of Geology and the Gambia Petroleum Commission, Baboucarr Njie offered his knowledge as an economist to the Gambian government to address the changing landscape. Recognizing the enormous potential of West Africa’s oil and gas sector, particularly the MSGBC basin, he advocated for the creation of a National Petroleum Company. His efforts resulted in the establishment of the Gambia National Petroleum Corporation in 2003, as well as measures to train petroleum engineers and improve expertise, ensuring that the country was ready to face the challenges and opportunities of the sector .
“Njie’s participation in this year’s edition of MSGBC is a testament to the importance The Gambia intends to play as an engine of West Africa’s growth. The Gambia is focused on strengthening the exploration and opening of new oil and gas fields, and while the event strengthens the country’s position as a hub of West Africa’s energy development, the Director General’s participation promotes relations between the countries of the MSGBC”, says Sandra Jeque, Director of the International Conference of Energy Capital & Power.
