In a bid to boost electricity supply to the city of Mouila, the Energy and Water Company of Gabon (Société d’Energie et d’Eau du Gabon) (SEEG) has commenced restoration work on the Bongolo hydroelectric power plant in the Ngounié province.

With a value of approximately $10.8 million, the scope of the project includes the upgrade of all hydro-mechanical structures and the rehabilitation of automation and control systems.

“Similar operations are underway in the other provinces of the country, to continue increasing the service rate and securing the network on sites that are subject to the same problems,” said Alain Patrick Kuma, Director General of SEEG.

The Bongolo project is part of the national utility’s strategic 2020 roadmap to increasing power access rates across the territory. In September, SEEG announced plans to prioritize 12 electricity and water projects to be completed in Greater Libreville and other cities by the end of the year, with total financing of more than $18.6 million.
