Critical Minerals Africa 2023, organized by Energy Capital & Power, featured a series of presentations from leading industry stakeholders on October 17, under the theme, “Establishing the Critical Minerals Value Chain of the Future in Africa.”
Key themes included identifying and defining strategic mineral reserves in Africa; scaling exploration and extraction activities; exploring the geopolitics of of the global mining market; Chinese dominance within mining and low-carbon supply chains; US and EU efforts to counter this dominance through investment-focused policy; the pressing need to diversify critical mineral supply chains; Africa as a hotspot for Rare Earth Elements; and its potential to play a major role in global battery supply chains and VRB manufacturing opportunities.
